Mary Joy Scott drawing : Victorian like female portrait

February 23 & March 2, 2011

Sognando ad occhi aperti
by Mary Joy Scott

The works on paper displayed in this show are part of a series called "Victorian Daydream".  It is inspired by fashion from the late 19th century.  Women wore outrageous hats made of feathers, bird wings and even taxidermied animals.  The effect must have been one of strange beings taking flight from the crown of the head, or a homunculus swallowing the delicate features of the woman underneath.  The works are colored pencil on antique cream paper (2010-2011).

Mary Joy Scott is a visual artist from San Francisco, CA.  She works as a tattoo artist at Ed Hardy's Tattoo City in San Francisco.
